Hodonin is a town on the River Morava in the southeast of Moravia, in the Czech Republic. It lies in the South Moravian Region. The population is around 25,000. Hodonín was first mentioned in 1046. It became a town in 1228. In 1850 Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of independent Czechoslovakia, was born here. In the vicinity of the town there is an oil field and a stratum of brown coal, which was formerly transported to the town of Otrokovice, a few kilometers from the city of Zlín, by the Baťa Canal. Czech entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa built the canal which now operates as a tourist attraction. The team of the Center for Lifelong Learning Lighthouse made a visit to Hodonin during their study visit to Czech Republic in October 2018.
